Gwen Backhouse founded Curlew Secretarial Solutions in 2014, using her Business Administration qualifications and 17+ years of experience in the industry to build an award-winning business. Offering services to a wide range of clients around the UK and Europe, she has now taken on office premises in Brampton Town Centre (North Cumbria) and works with a team of associates.
Gwen believes very strongly in ‘collaboration, not competition’ within the Virtual Assistant industry and co-runs the Cumbrian VA Network to support other VA’s around the county. She is also currently writing a VA course for people wanting to become Virtual Assistants. By collaborating with other Virtual Assistants, she has grown a great team of associates to help her grow the business, meaning she can offer a wide range of services beyond her own skill set.
Gwen won Best Newcomer VA in 2015, she then went on to win VA of the Year North West 2016 and VA of the Year England 2016, and was then awarded Runner-Up Outstanding VA UK 2017 – and returning to be named UK Outstanding VA 2018 at the annual VA Conference.
As well as being a VA, Gwen is married to chef, Adrian and has two girls, aged 20 and 14. To relax she enjoys playing violin in ceilidh bands, Four Moor Fiddles and Blue Jam.
